Yemie Sonuga is an international performer. She is a Nigerian, Canadian, American, singer, actor, model, and writer sharing her time between Toronto and New York City.
Yemie is thrilled to announce she will be joining the Toronto Cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!
Canada is where Yemie first found her passion for performing. She welcomed opportunities to work with influential mentors such as Garth Drabinsky, and Adrian Noble. She began her training at Grant MacEwan University and continuing her journey at The Royal Scottish Conservatoire where she obtained her Masters.
Yemie soon moved to London where she began to experience success. She was first cast as Mabel in the national tour of Fame the Musical. During this time she was auditioning and was cast in the original cast of Ghost the Musical. This would be Yemie’s first original cast and world premier. While part of Ghost the Musical Yemie worked with legendary industry names such as Tony Award winner Mathew Warchus, Academy Award winner Bruce Joel Rubin, and Illusionist Paul Kieve. Halfway through her contract in Ghost the Musical she was asked to understudy the leading role of Oda Mae Brown. Fun fact; you can listen to Yemie on the Original Broadway Cast Album for Ghost the Musical.
Yemie’s next big projects in London were the original West End cast of Matt Stone and Trey Parkers, The Book of Mormon, and the Olivier Award Nominated revival of Porgy and Bess, understudying and playing the role of Bess. Yemie also had the honour of performing at the 2015 Olivier Awards.
